Data collection infoContinuous (hourly) water level data were collected with a HOBO MX 2001 Bluetooth (30 meter range) water level logger. The data logger determines water levels by continuously collecting the absolute pressure of the water column above a sensor, compensating it for atmospheric pressure, and calibrating it with reference water levels that are collected manually. The atmospheric pressure is measured by a barometric sensor in the MX2001 top end unit that is installed in the airspace at the top of the wellhead. Manual water level level measurements were collected using either a Heron or Solinst water level tape (sounding tape).
Data processingData compensation and water level referencing are completed with the HOBOmobile App. For the conversion of pressure to water level, the water density of freshwater is adjusted for water temperature. Pressures are converted to water level based on manual water manual readings using a water level tape. The pressure data were reviewed to ensure they are within the factory calibrated range of the sensor. Manual and logger data were compared to identify potential instrument drift. The differences between the manual measurements (5) and the data logger were all less than 3.6 cm.
